Wellbeing Centre

Supporting you and your family, your way

Previously known as Day Hospice, our Wellbeing Centre offers a safe, welcoming space where individuals can receive expert care, enjoy companionship and participate in enriching activities – all while living at home!

Our Wellbeing service is a referral only service. You can be referred to this service by your GP, consultant, Macmillan nurse, hospital or community health professional.

Personalised support, when you need it most

Our Bereavement Service is available to anyone living in the Teesside area. We believe support should not be limited to where your loved one died. That’s why our service is open to anyone aged 7 and above who experienced a loss more than six months ago.

We offer a range of ways to access support, including:

Wellbeing & Community Lead

I feel incredibly proud and privileged to lead our Wellbeing and community services. As a team, we have such an important opportunity to make a meaningful difference to the lives of the people we support – by truly listening to their needs, understanding what matters to them, and providing meaningful activities, connection, support and moments of joy.

I am passionate about creating services where people feel valued, heard and cared for, while empowering them with knowledge, confidence and support they need to remain as well as possible at home and live life to the fullest.

It’s a privilege to work alongside such a dedicated team, helping to make a positive difference every day.

What goes on in the wellbeing centre?

At the end of your programme, you will be reviewed by a nurse who will assess you holistically, including your symptoms, needs and reason for referral. We will then discuss other options from discharge to peer support groups or another programme if required.

Teesside Hospice has an inpatient unit, which is a short-term unit. Please visit our page on how to make a referral for patients, families and carers to find out more about accessing our services.

If you wish for hospice care to be your preferred place of death, we can document and make health professionals involved in your care aware that this would like to be one of your options.

The Wellbeing Centre has patient-only sessions and carer-only sessions; please discuss this with staff at the hospice. We do, however, have educational workshops that are for patients and carers.

We do not unfortunately provide respite care. You can view our page on making a referral for patients, families and carers to find out more about our referral criteria.

Any health professional involved in your care can refer you. You can view our page on making a referral for patients, families and carers to find out more about making a referral to our Wellbeing Centre.

There is a designated smoking area for patients only; staff will show you where this is on your first visit.

Patients may be assisted by a family member/carer to the designated smoking area; however, staff will not be able to assist patients to the designated smoking area.

Teesside Hospice is a smoke-free site except for designated smoking areas for patients only.

We do not have medications in our Wellbeing Centre, and the nurses are unable to administer medications. Please bring your own medications, and staff can prompt and support as required.

We do not have a bath in our Wellbeing Centre. The Wellbeing Centre is a programme focused on supporting your needs, goals and your wellbeing when you need it most.

Keeping your DNACPR form with you helps healthcare professionals understand and respect your wishes if you become unwell or need urgent medical care.

Having it available can help ensure the care you receive is in line with your choices and can prevent unnecessary distress for you and your loved ones.

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer a routine doctor appointment within the service. We would kindly advise you to contact your GP or medical professional involved in your care, who will be able to assess your concerns and arrange any further medical review if needed.

We do not provide dinner; however, we have a wonderful café on-site at our hospice. You can view our Northgate Tea Room menu here.
